ABOUT US

The Friends of Kamehameha Canoe Club is non-profit organization established for the sole purpose of supporting Kamehameha Canoe Club O’ahu, an amateur Hawaiian outrigger canoe club in Honolulu, HI.

Here are several ways to help us support Kamehameha Canoe Club.

The Friends organizes special educational workshops for high schools and colleges visiting Honolulu. Our 2-hour workshop covers a brief history of paddling, paddling techniques, canoe rigging, and paddle out to the ocean (weather permitting) for beginners. The  Club members volunteer to lead the workshops. Donation of $25/person. Reservations required in advance.

O'AHU

HISTORY

Kamehameha Canoe Club O’ahu perpetuates Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling (hoe waʻa) through the ʻohana based club founded by Uncle Sam Ahai’s father. Kamehameha Canoe Club is a founding member of the Nā ʻOhana o Nā Hui Waʻa Association on Oʻahu. Anyone interested in trying out the sport of outrigger canoe paddling is welcome to join the club!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Everyone is welcome to join the canoe club. Here are a few requirements:


~ You must be able to swim/tread water to go out on the open ocean.

~ Bring a bottle of water and a healthy after snack.

~ Wear spandex leggings capris, a rash guard shirt, and rubber slippers.

~ A cap and sunglasses (with neck chain) optional but highly recommended.

~ Please use a sunscreen without Oxybenzone.

FEE SCHEDULE

Pre-Season Distance Schedule and FeesO

Quarterly Passes:

If you plan on coming out often, our quarterly pass is a good option. There are usually 30 - 35 sessions per quarter.  

October - December: $50.00

January - March: $50.00

April - June: $50.00

July - September: $50.00 (Paddlers who participate in regatta sprints are exempt)

There is a HCRA insurance fee of $30.00 that is good for the calendar year and is due in January.   club

2) Recreational Day Pass is great for someone who just wants to try.  This fee will go toward your quarterly fee if you enjoy it and plan to come out more often. (Sundays Only 9:00a-11:00a) $15.00

3) Deluxe Day Pass: $25.00 (Includes commemorative Stream2Sea product kit with small Kamehameha sticker. A great gift for visitors. Sundays Only 9:00a-11:00a)
